Waste Collection Scam Warning

Rother District Council has been advised by our waste contractor Kier that there are people operating in the Bexhill and Sidley area, claiming to be from Kier, trying to fraudulently obtain money from residents.

These people are knocking (quite aggressively) on residents doors:

  • Requesting Christmas tips and /or
  • Telling the resident that their brown bin is too heavy and will only be emptied if they pay them additional money

These people are wearing hi-visibility tabards with normal clothes underneath.

Please be assured that when brown bins are overweight, Kier will ticket the bin. Kier do not approach residents and would not request any additional money under any circumstance.

What should I do?

If you are approached by a person claiming to be from Kier requesting money to either empty a bin, or as a christmas tip - you should not hand any money over. Please report any incidents to Rother District Council and Sussex Police.
