It is always difficult asking for money, but please read this before pressing the delete button.
This email should have been sent sooner, but as you know time seems to rush by these days and unfortunately as the ARC member in charge of sending out emails I have been waylaid by medical issues since our last event at the end of April. So here I am, updating records before my next operation in September!
We are forging ahead with the ARC. Paul Petley is now Chairperson and with his project management skills he and Jenny Obee are currently streamlining our processes to make updating our website easier and more efficient. Paul, with Donna Gilbert’s help, has also made progress with recording oral histories of people in our local community. This will help us piece together the area’s history connecting people with homes, activities and businesses and help us notate our website photos. We are also lucky to have Christine Bennett on board who enjoys searching family histories and has been busy researching some of the names on gravestones; but also finding out who lived in which houses using available census documents.
It takes time to muster a group of people who can work together cohesively but we are lucky that we all enjoy making this project work and taking it forward. You are more than welcome to join us; just get in touch whether you wish to volunteer or know of people who would be a good local candidate to record for posterity.
However, and you knew I would come to this, it frees up so much of our time if we have the necessary funds to pay our overheads and help buy new resources, like a fire safe (just one of the items on our list). By becoming a Friend of the ARC for just £15 per person each year, it means we can get on with the job in hand and not worry about the money it takes to keep us running. Please think about setting up a Standing Order for next May 1st which is our annual renewal date. But also, if you can complete the attached form for this year’s membership, we would be very grateful.
Thank you!
