Just over a week until our next ARC event

This will be the next best thing to seeing Father Christmas, the Rye Town Crier.  Well, he is dressed in red.  We realise that not everyone likes to drive in the dark, so if that is an issue do let us know and we can see if you can be picked up.

Christmas is coming so we wanted to get this event in before you become busy with shopping, decorating, making mince pies, parties, family get-togethers.  This will be a very relaxed affair in comparison with all that:  you come, get a glass of wine, sit and be entertained.  So do join us.

Oh, and there will be our AGM but it will be very short so you’ll hardly notice…

Food Bank

The Rye Food Bank is still in great need of donations either in money or food.
Pett WI are still collecting food donations for the Food Bank.
Sadly since the loss of our lovely Post Office donations from Fairlight have almost completely stopped.

We now have 3 locations in the Village

A new box at Fairlight Village Hall – outside the doctors surgery door
The Barn – a short walk up from Hair Base on the same side
Wakehams Farm

What is needed?
Dried and tinned foods of all sorts like pasta, rice, tinned beans , spaghetti, tuna, ham, etc breakfast cereals. Long life milk. Pasta sauces. Etc.
All food must be in date and unopened.
The Food Bank aim to give families food to feed a family 3 times a day for 3 days.

So come on Fairlighters,  Pett and Icklesham are generous givers so let’s show them we can be the same!

Many thanks

A Bunch of Amateurs – Just one week to go!

By next week, the storms will be but a distant memory (we hope), so why not put on your glad rags and join us for our latest production, “A Bunch of Amateurs” by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman.

Our performers and backstage crew have been braving the elements to get to rehearsals, determined to ensure that they provide you with the high quality entertainment to which you have become accustomed.

And the good news is, you don’t even need to step outside to book your tickets. Just go online to Box office – Fairlight Players and you will find the whole procedure to be remarkably simple.

Alternatively, phone the lovely Sue, and she will be happy to help you.

We look forward to seeing you.

Best wishes

Brenda Dwyer

My mum’s (Brenda’s) funeral announcement.

Brenda has been in Fairlight for over 40 years and she has been involved in a great deal of local activities, clubs and church, so I know there will be a great deal of people in Fairlight I’m afraid I have not managed to tell about Brenda’s passing.

Many thanks

Fairlight Parish Council Financial Matters

An email was recently sent out on the FRA email system  from a group of largely unknown individuals who call themselves ‘ Fairlight Financials’.

The document contained their opinions about the finances of the Parish Council. Something which they are entitled to do.

However this document contained several factual inaccuracies and some statements that did  not  contain the full facts of the issue, thereby not allowing residents to be able to fully consider the statements.

The Parish Council Finance Committee meets on Tuesday at 7 pm, all are welcome to attend.
Some  Parish councillors will be at DISH on Monday between 10 and 4 if you wish to discuss any questions you may have about the workings of the Parish Council.

Preparations for Storm Ciarán – UK Power Networks

Dear resident

I have just received this email from UK Power Networks and have been asked to share with residents

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing regarding our preparations for Storm Ciarán, which will come to the UK on Thursday 2nd November.

As you may be aware, UK Power Networks manages the local power lines and substations which distribute electricity to over 8.5m homes and businesses across London, the South East and the East of England.

Storm Ciarán will bring with it strong winds and rain, and an amber alert has been issued by the Met Office.

Our electricity network is built to be resilient but strong winds and heavy rain can bring down branches and trees, damaging overhead power lines. Where this happens we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

We have organised for additional staff in our contact centre and more engineers on the ground, particularly for Storm Ciarán, to be available to help customers whose electricity supply might be affected by the predicted weather.

Both you and your constituents will be able to find regular updates and information about individual power cuts on our website www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk . We will also be posting general updates on @UKPowerNetworks .

Anyone experiencing a power cut should:

  • Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk to view our live power cut map, with details of individual power cuts or to report a power cut
  • Call 105 free of charge to report damage to the network or speak with our customer service team
  • Tweet @UKPowerNetworks to report a power cut or to receive updates

We advise people to stay clear of power lines and report damaged power lines immediately by calling 105 free from either a landline or a mobile phone. If they see electricity lines that are down or causing significant risk to the public they should call 999.

We provide extra help to customers on our Priority Service Register during a power cut.  Households with people of pensionable age, those with a health condition, have children under five living with them, or someone in the household who uses medical or mobility equipment that requires electricity, as well as those who may be in vulnerable circumstances during a power cut, can join the register.  You can find out more information about our Priority Service on our website: ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority .

If you would like to share information with your residents about preparing for the storm or registering for the Priority Service Register, you might like to share the following on Twitter or to your local Facebook pages:

As a result of #StormCiarán, heavy rain and high winds are due to arrive on Thurs 2 November. @UKPowerNetworks has extra field engineers and call centre staff on hand to support any customers affected. Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk or call 105 for any issues regarding your electricity supply #ukpnnew

If you have any questions, or if I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

 Michael

Fairlight Preservation Trust AGM

Dear Member

Please click this link for the Agenda for the forthcoming AGM on Sunday, 19th November.  I do hope you will attend to see the ongoing good work that the Trust  are doing and achieving.

If you, or someone you know, would like to help us by becoming a committee member, I have attached a form to fill in and would be obliged if you would return it by the end of the month to trevor.lewing@btinternet.com.

Thanks for reading and hope to see you at the AGM.

Kind Regards

Jill

Fairlight Parish Council Survey

We are now collating the information in the returned survey forms.
If you have not returned your form yet please do so by Friday November 3rd.
The forms are still available on the Parish Council website / household survey 2023

The survey is your chance to let the Parish Council know about what you would like us to consider doing….or indeed not doing in the village, so that we can formulate our action plan for the next 5 years and start to budget for any necessary expenditure needed to carry out the action plan.

The response to the survey so far has been useful but we have not yet had responses from a large number of households.  This may be because you are happy with the actions the Parish Council has undertaken or has planned, however, if you don’t respond, your ideas will not be heard and therefore cannot  be included in our deliberations about the five year plan for developing resources around the village.
We need to hear from you to know what you want or need in the village.

Many thanks to those who have taken the time to respond

Issy Horsley
Chair Fairlight Parish Council
