I am writing to say a tremendous thank you to all those who have been incredibly supportive over this fundraiser on behalf of Macmillan and The Judy Beard cancer unit at the Conquest hospital.

The Hill Surgery dispensary staff have just made me aware of this.
A local resident had someone turn up at her door on Sunday morning proporting to be from the hospice to give her medication . The person was in a nurses uniform but had no identification.
The resident knew nothing about this and refused the medication.
This is to remind you that are invited to join us (The Archive Resource Centre) for a talk by the Antiques Roadshow’s glass expert, Andy McConnell on Saturday 23rd November at 7:30pm (doors open at 7:00pm). Tickets are £10pp if booked ahead (a good idea as seats are limited) or £12.50 at the door. Members have free entry but need to still prebook using the code sent by email. All proceeds go to support the ARC.
If you have a special piece of glassware and want to know more about it, then bring it along for Andy to look at during the interval.
Wine is available for a small charge, and a raffle might get you a further bottle or two!

By popular demand, the next Fairlight Astronomers meeting will be aimed at all those trying to get a better understanding of this wonderful pastime.
An easy to follow evening has been designed to tempt you into spending a few hours under the Fairlight starry nights, and get to grips with the first steps to successful star gazing!
We will be meeting on the 14th November in the small village hall at 7:00pm, entrance is £3 each or £5 per couple. Light refreshments and cake will be served at halftime.
If you own binoculars, please bring them along and if the sky permits we may try to do some quick outdoor tutorials. Please dress warm, it’s starting to get cold out there!
The AGM starts at 2.30 pm in the Village Hall, open to non-members.. Please come along and find out what has been going on at the cliff edge this year.
Membership subscriptions can be paid, if not already done so, and a chance for non-members to join. It is only £10 pp for 3 years. It is really important to save the village from all the water that comes from the Fire Hills especially as the climate is changing.

Last year’s exhibition “One hundred years of Fairlight Cove” covered the modern day Fairlight and how it developed. The new exhibition will display paintings, lithographs, photographs and other documents showing the former Parish of Fairlight, all the way back to the Iguanodons.
Entry is free. Tea, coffee and cake will be available all day.
Unfortunately we have another cancellation of our scheduled talks as Ian Everest is unwell but luckily for us Elaine Luke has kindly stepped in and will give us an interesting talk on how Malcolm Saville used the local landscapes of Fairlight, Rye and Romney Marsh in his stories.
The meeting starts at 2.15 at the village hall and visitors (men too) will be very welcome to join us for £3 admission.

Nik is a big name in the field of astronomy and writes regularly for the magazine Astronomy Now. Nik has produced two books on techniques on deep space imaging,

For anyone planning on using the bus to get to fairlight from September 30th for 4 weeks….important information from Stagecoach below!!
Road Closure – Pett Level Road, Winchelsea Beach26 Sep 2024 to 02 Nov 2024Pett Level Road will be closed for resurfacing works from Monday 30th September until Friday 1st November (excluding weekends) between the hours of 07:00 until 19:00 During these times Service 101 will be unable to serve Fairlight and Pett Level. Service 101 towards Rye will serve Ore Village as normal before diverting direct via the A259 to Winchelsea Bridge where they will join Sea Road turning at The Ship Inn (reversing into Willow Lane) and resuming normal line of route. Service 101 towards Hastings will serve The Ship Inn as normal (reversing into Willow Lane) before diverting via Sea Road and direct via the A259 resuming normal line of route from Ore Village. A shuttle service will be in operation between Fairlight Cove and Ore Village where a connection can be made to buses heading towards Hastings or Rye. Some shuttle journeys will extend to / from Rye Station to cater for pupils attending Rye College.

Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highway service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out resurfacing works on Pett Level Road, Pett.
Once completed, these works will help improve the condition of the road surface.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out between Monday 30 September 2024 and Friday 1 November 2024 between 7am and 7pm.
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
These works will predominantly involve carriageway surfacing, however, will also include, hedge cutting, ironwork repairs, layby & verge repairs, gully cleansing and road marking refreshments. The team will also be removing kerbing setts and refreshing the High Friction Surfacing (HFS) leading up to outside the Winchelsea Beach Cafe.
How will this impact highway users?
The team will be working from Chick Hill to Smugglers End Park. The works will be carried out in a phased approach, commencing at the Winchelsea end, moving along the road until it reaches Pett Level. Please see the below table for more information:

Ironwork adjustments
Access to the road will be restricted for residents for the duration of works. Traffic will be diverted via Pett Level Road, Sea Road, The Strand, Tanyard Lane, Ferry Hill, Robert’s Hill, Rectory Lane, Sandrock Hill, A259, Main Road, Rye Road, Winchelsea Road, Friars Hill, Pett Road, Chick Hill and vice versa.
There is a separate for larger vehicles due to width restrictions on Chick Hill. Traffic will be diverted via Pett Level Road, Battery Hill, Fairlight Road, Old London Road, Rye Road, Winchelsea Road, Rye Road, Main Road, Sandrock Hill, Rectory Lane, Robert’s Hill, Ferry Hill, Tanyard Lane, The Strand, Sea Road, Pett Level Road, Victoria Way and vice versa.
If you need vehicle access to your property, please discuss this with the team on-site. Please bear in mind there will be delays whilst the area is made safe, and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Please be advised, the road will be open outside of working hours, however there may be temporary traffic signals in place to protect equiptment.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our work.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Waste collection: Access will be maintained for waste collection vehicles.
Public transport: Shuttle buses have been put in place for essential services,such as schools. All other buses will be following the diversion route. To see the timetable for the shuttle service, click here.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
